WHAT IS THE AFP EVERY MEMBER CAMPAIGN (EMC)?

Every year, the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada, with the help of chapters coast to coast, conducts an Every Member Campaign encouraging all members to donate to their fundraising association. The Ottawa chapter is proud to be a part of this initiative and to have generous members who care about the well-being of the profession.

The programs funded by this campaign support professional fundraisers in the National Capital Region and throughout the country by raising resources to offer education and training, and increase the public’s awareness of philanthropy and understanding of fundraising. Well-trained fundraisers and an enlightened public will result in increased funding for the many non-profit organizations serving Canadian communities in need.

Each chapter sets an ambitious goal for the amount raised by its own members. If the chapter goal is reached, 25% of the funds raised through the chapter can be awarded back to that region to advance goals in keeping with the campaign objectives – another reason to participate generously, so that our own area can benefit along with the rest of Canada!

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy - Canada is dedicated to helping fundraisers as they serve communities in need. The goal of the Foundation is to advance ethical and effective fundraising. 

WHAT IS THE OTTAWA CHAPTER'S GOAL AND HOW HAS OUR CHAPTER BENEFITTED FROM THE CAMPAIGN?

Every year, the Ottawa chapter participates in the Every Member Campaign by promoting it to members and encouraging donations. In past years when we have reached our chapter goal for the amount raised (as recently as 2007) 25% of funds raised within our chapter have been used to expand Fundraising Day, a full day of learning for local fundraisers at all levels. That funding acted as a catalyst, propelling our chapter to continue to raise the bar for Fundraising Day, with high calibre speakers and even bursaries!

In 2008, AFP members in the National Capital Region generously contributed $4000. While unfortunately not reaching our goal of $5000, you can be proud that your generosity made a big difference to fundraisers across the country. As funds provide access to training about best practices, by extension, many worthy causes benefit along with individual fundraising professionals.

2009 CAMPAIGN SOON TO BE LAUNCHED

This year, the Ottawa chapter is eager to show what its members are made of!

Campaign preparations are underway and this year’s goal will soon be announced. Already, nearly 100% of the Ottawa chapter board of directors has made a generous donation. Many have joined the EMC Campaign’s Alpha Society, the program that makes giving easy with pre-arranged affordable monthly, quarterly, semiannual or annual donation options through pre-authorized bank or credit card deductions

We all care about maintaining top level professionalism and ethics in our profession. To allow for this to continue, fundraisers need to have access to continued training opportunities. At this time of economic decline, many charities may be cutting back on their staff professional training budgets, only selecting top notch opportunities. Your donation to the Every Member Campaign can help to ensure continued accessibility to the highest level training opportunities – allowing our profession to continue advancing as the truly amazing career choice that we know it to be!
