Service Description

Cornerstone Housing for Women is an agency providing emergency shelter and supportive housing for women experiencing homelessness, poverty, mental illness, addictions, trauma and abuse in Ottawa. Cornerstone is a Community Ministry of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Finance and Administration, the Resource Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and Cornerstone's Foundation Board to enhance our capacity to provide excellent services for women at risk. Duties would cover all aspects of Resource Development including the areas of Strategic planning and Resource Development; Board Development; Donor Relations; Public Relations Education and Community Engagement; Special Event coordination; and all administrative functions associated with the position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning and Resource Development

  • Develops revenue generating strategies, plans and stewardship activities to achieve fundraising goals and increase donations to Cornerstone
  • Ensures that Cornerstone's fundraising plans are diversified across a range of measures including individual and group donations, foundation grants, faith communities, special events and corporate sponsorships
  • Works with the Executive Director, the Anglican Diocese and the Foundation Board to implement a broad range of options for donors wishing to contribute to Cornerstone
  • Creates long-term growth plans, as well as annual operational plans that set goals, objectives, targets and budgets for fundraising
  • Conducts comprehensive research in order to identify and recommend potential funding prospects and opportunities
  • Develops and implements innovative and strategic communication and solicitation strategies to build donor loyalty, improve retention and increase the size of the supporter base
  • Creates fundraising materials, including written appeals, proposals, grant applications, presentations, reports, acknowledgements and donor reports
  • Collaborates with Cornerstone's Volunteer Coordinator to involve volunteers in fundraising efforts
  • Tracks fundraising outcomes and provides regular evaluations to refine Cornerstone's resource development goals and targets
  • Oversees all in-kind donations and the donation storage room
  • Secures and manages donations of Christmas gifts for residents, coordinating efforts with community groups and individuals and distribution of gifts to all Cornerstone houses
  • Develops and implements a Planned Giving program
  • Collaborates with Diocesan fundraising programs as required

Board Development

  • Engages Foundation Board members on fundraising initiatives, serving as the primary staff contact for the Foundation Board.
  • Provides regular Resource Development training and guidance to Foundation Board members
  • Ensures board members have the necessary information to complete their work

 Donor Relations

  • Identifies, cultivates, stewards and manages strong relationships with Cornerstone donors, prospects, sponsors and other stakeholders to create mutually beneficial, long term partnerships
  • Creates and manages opportunities for major and planned gifts based on accepted industry standards, benchmarks and best practices
  • Maintains strong ties with all Cornerstone donors, respecting confidentiality and privacy guidelines and handling sensitive information with tact and professionalism
  • Provides timely thank you letters to all financial and in-kind donors
  • Plans and hosts regular donor recognition activities

Public Relations Education and CommunityDevelops marketing and communication materials

  • Ensures regular updating of Cornerstone's promotional materials, including brochures, display board and information packages.
  • Ensures that accurate and timely information is posted on agency web site
  • Enhances online fundraising
  • Provides training and leadership for Cornerstone staff who speak in public or to the media
  • Provides ongoing training and leadership for Cornerstone staff in maintaining excellent community and donor relations
  • Represents Cornerstone at community events and public speaking opportunities at the request of the Director
  • Handles donor requests and provides information to the public as needed
  • Coordinates production of the agency newsletter on a quarterly basis, both print and electronically
  • Develops and maintains Cornerstone's social media initiatives.

Special Events

  • With the Fundraising Event Committee (FREC) manages, coordinates and implements organizational special events
  • Directs all logistics, handles registrations and sponsorships
  • Develops promotional materials and coordinate event promotion

 Administrative

  • Records and tracks all donor information on Raiser’s Edge and Raiser’s Edge NXT software, and produces regular reports and analysis to assist in increasing Cornerstone's fundraising plans
  • Researches information about grants, and writes funding proposals
  • Responsible for the management of the fundraising database and ensuring the timely distribution of tax receipts
  • Maintains strict compliance with Community Ministries Board Fundraising policies and procedures, regulatory, legal and legislative requirements
  • Participates in the activities of the Cornerstone management team to plan and accomplish agency goals
  • Participates in Cornerstone's Fund Raising Event Committee and provides clerical support, including monthly minutes and follow up action
  • Supervises co-op students, volunteers and residents helping with Resource Development work
  • Deposits funds to Cornerstone Housing for Women Foundation bank on a timely basis


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-Secondary education in fundraising, public relations or equivalent
  • Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a fundraising position with a social service agency
  • Strong foundation in poverty, homelessness, trauma, abuse and women's issues
  • Demonstrated proficiency in area of Public relations and media communications
  • Experience in developing Planned Giving programs
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, preferably in both official languages
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Positive and innovative personality with demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced and busy environment
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and donor relationships
  • Demonstrated success in planning and managing special events
  • Demonstrated success in launching and leading a capital campaign
  • Strong financial planning, project management and evaluation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Power Point and Excel
  • Proficiency in use of fundraising software packages, preferably Income Manager
  • Comfort with working in a faith based agency
  • Experience working with a volunteer board
  • Comfort and ability to include Cornerstone residents in fundraising efforts
  • Use of a vehicle a definite asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours from time to time
