Daniel Brunette awarded outstanding Community Builder
At the Ottawa Fundraising Day on May 5th, 2015, Derek deLouché, president-elect for the AFP Ottawa Chapter and Director, Resource Development of the United Way Centraide Ottawa presented Dan Brunette with the outstanding Community Builder award.
United Way is about building a better Ottawa by empowering communities and their residents to affect change…. a goal that would not be possible without the contribution of individuals who want to make a real difference in the lives of others through volunteerism and a dedication to making that change happen. While they may not wear capes or masks, these individuals are in fact heroes. They demonstrate the ability to give, speak up and take action on the things that matter most to them, often with little to no recognition.
Dan is an everyday hero and a man of dedication and passion. He dedicates countless hours to many worthy causes such as the Ottawa Kiwanis Club, The Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa and their Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa, the Bhawani Anantaraman Memorial Foundation and The Duke of Edinburg Awards where he is a director of the Gold Award Holders Association after earning his in 1996.
Dan has been volunteering with us since 2003 with stints on education, communication and government relations. Three years ago he became President and as our leader increased membership to over 200, increased the presence of AFP in public policy discussions, and was part of the effort that saw an amazing Diversity and Inclusion series of consultations coordinated in Ontario as a joint AFP Toronto and AFP Ottawa initiative, which saw our chapter recognized by AFP international and the Government of Ontario.
Dan as a donor and volunteer has championed the cause of the AFP Foundation of Philanthropy and the benefits that it brings our chapter.
As a mentor and as President of our Chapter, Dan invested hundreds of hours to change our lives in this room.
The plaque presented to Dan read: “Thank you for helping to build a stronger, healthier and safer community for all of us.”
United Way has a permanent display at City Hall, called the Community Builder Wall of Inspiration. Your name will be added to this display so that everyone will know the wonderful contribution he made to this community for years to come.
Congratulations Dan, and thank you for being an everyday hero.
